Secrets
It must have been in middle school. There was an actual snow storm. The town grew still and I ventured out to walk in the empty streets. It was magic, like a first date with a good friend that I’d never thought about in that way. Since then, every time there is a big storm (usually snow or ice) that would cause people to stay home, I’ve taken a walk either during or directly after. The greeting I receive is never a disappointment and today was no exception.
Secrets
I’m not able to hush the world.
I grow still elsewhere
When the sun shines,
The clouds recede,
Feet fill paths,
And wheels roll down roads.
It’s when others retreat from what the pansies survive
That we finally get some time alone -
Just you and me.
It’s always overdue
And I’m always ready
To keep your secrets.
